Gallan Head GALA’vant
Our first fun art festival was held on Saturday the 22nd of September 2018!
FRESHPAINT.org.uk Marc came up to the island for the first time and helped us celebrate by utilizing a derelict building on the headland for a graffiti workshop – the first ever on Lewis!
We filled in the holes in the floor, painted it to a blank canvas and then let Marc work his magic.
We themed it on the birds around Gallan Head as awareness to their spectacular beauty.
Other Fun art workshops on the day
Glam a Shell
The kids and adults got to glitter glue and paint scallop shells collected from the Scallop Shack in Uig.
Paint a rock
A chance to make a doorstop or just add a rock sheep to your garden, everyone got creative painting a rock that where collected from our wonderful bay.
We used rocks collected from the bay to creat footprints on a cement plinth on the headland which Amanda from North of the Sun has now cemented to create a permanent feature.
Arts and Crafts Market
Thank you to all the local artists who came by and set up a stall to show off their crafts
We held the festival on the autumn equinox to coincide with our marking the setting sun with a monolith on our living sun sculpture. With of course a bonfire; the biggest Gallan Head has seen yet, thanks to Josh Frame one of our board members.
Home made baking and Soup
