Prior to carrying out Gunnera eradication treatment it was decided to survey the areas around Gallan Head, Aird village and parts of Aird common grazings with the aim of documenting the location and extent of Gunnera. This was a partnership approach involving the Trust, private householders, the Aird crofting shareholders and Uig & Hamnaway Estates. The Trust secured funding for the surveying from the Inspiring Scotland Neighbourhood Ecosystem Fund and the survey was carried out from July to September.  The survey provided us with the extent and exact location of this invasive plant and enabled a more accurate  targeted treatment to be carried out before it spreads beyond our control and leads to major degradation of important habitats. The maps show the location of gunnera in the area.
